Emily Wheeler, Public Affairs Manager
UK Finance
Representing over 300 firms, Emily has ensured UK Finance’s voice is heard in government circles by building a high-quality stakeholder network across Whitehall, Parliament, regulators and the policy community. This network has generated critical intelligence and positioned UK Finance as a trusted partner in official communications, ensuring member interests are reflected in government announcements.
Emily played a pivotal role in delivering a high-impact engagement programme at the Labour Party Conference immediately after a major government reshuffle. She secured senior new ministers as speakers, facilitated access to new decision-makers and ensured UK Finance remained visible and influential at a critical moment. Member feedback was outstanding.
Her work created platforms for senior advocacy, enabling UK Finance’s leadership to advance its Plan for Growth programme through conferences, MP roundtables and bilateral meetings, supported by clear agendas and high-quality briefings.
Emily also delivered tangible legislative impact, helping secure beneficial amendments to the Public Authorities (Fraud, Error and Recovery) Act 2025 and a government commitment on open banking during the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025.
While still relatively new to public affairs, she is already shaping policy outcomes and setting a benchmark for excellence in public affairs at UK Finance. A truly deserving Newcomer of the Year.
